Honors Studio Installation: Memory  plastic bags, spray paint, children's book, shopping cart Memory: When I was little, much of my time was spent in shopping carts, feeling bored as I was carted around from store to store for hours  in thrift stores and supermarkets. I always read a book and the exhaustion and overstimulation the environment brought me was always something to dread. The shopping cart was a safety net in a big world of really bright lights and sound. If I didn't have a book, I used my own imagination to pass the time.  There is audio playing songs from this playlist  , distorted to sound like it's coming from a loudspeaker in a giant super market. The sound of a grocery store scanner plays over it. I want the audience to feel overstimulated over the sounds competing against each other, but find comfort in the atmosphere of the shopping cart just like I did.  My idea was that the inside of the cart would be nest like, a cocooning "safe zone....

 Body - Honors Studio Assignment #4 TOP: Revised BOTTOM: Origin Don't Look At Me!  Artist's statement:  Paradox (Body Assignment)  cardboard, wire, acrylic paint & marker Honors Studio Art, 2024 I am aware of my biological sex at all times: How it can feel like a punch to the face when it is all I am summed up to, and something I have to be careful of, for my safety as a feminine presenting person. As humans we are constantly conscious of, and often ashamed of our appearance. I notice this manifests particularly in the clothing we choose to wear, so I intended from the start for this piece to be worn. The naked torso represents wearing your body on the outside--a feeling of being forced to meet expectations or dress a certain way. The irony of wearing this  out on the street, of drawing attention where you so badly don't want people to look, is what drove my intention with this piece.
