Uncovering -- Mask Project (Identity) 

Materials:
Wool, craft wire, dye, acrylic paint, glue, cheese cloth, beads

 If you turned your brain inside out, what would you see? The hippocampus? Brain fluid? or your thoughts?
A little bit inspired by dissecting sheep brains in anatomy class, I took that idea and thought of what my brain would look like in its abstract, conscious form. It unravels and twists so that it holds the head in a comfy embrace. 


Over the course of several days, I soaked pieces of cheesecloth in different mixtures of dye and glue. The glue made some of the pieces hold more structure, something I was looking for initially for the design purposes of how I would bring the structure to life (Below). 





When we got critique in class, I decided to additionally soak the cotton stuffing in blue and purple dye. The end affect ended up soaking through the original cheesecloth. The paint on top was done with acrylic and a thin brush.

 Honors Studio: Alter Ego  December 2024 Think of words that describe yourself, and then think of words that are exact opposite of that. There's your alter ego.  Walter is fun to imagine. Although he is partly a failure, and a coward, he is human. This project was completed over the course of two nights, often filming between my sister taking over the bathroom with her extensive nighttime routine and ruining my hair with too much mousse and curl cream. Honors Studio: Performance Art Ritual! cardboard, hot glue, acrylic paint, face lotion, cornstarch, water  The fate of the piece lies in the audience, not mine. I place my trust in others advocating for my choices, and making myself vulnerable, something I struggle with personally. My attempts at self advocacy are nonexistent.  One of my favorite parts of this piece was the interactions I had with people, and all the decisions I made. Many asked me to draw their friends. My sister (probably to spite me) asked for pink, a color I didn't have mixed, so I made it specially for her. Lots asked for circles, smiley faces...birds, teachers.  Body - Honors Studio Assignment #4 TOP: Revised BOTTOM: Origin Don't Look At Me!  Artist's statement:  Paradox (Body Assignment)  cardboard, wire, acrylic paint & marker Honors Studio Art, 2024 I am aware of my biological sex at all times: How it can feel like a punch to the face when it is all I am summed up to, and something I have to be careful of, for my safety as a feminine presenting person. As humans we are constantly conscious of, and often ashamed of our appearance. I notice this manifests particularly in the clothing we choose to wear, so I intended from the start for this piece to be worn. The naked torso represents wearing your body on the outside--a feeling of being forced to meet expectations or dress a certain way. The irony of wearing this  out on the street, of drawing attention where you so badly don't want people to look, is what drove my intention with this piece.
